Kathy B

Kathy Bird is a grateful veteran of HomeFront and its ArtSpace program.

A guest for the first time in 2011, after losing her home in foreclosure and her job, the former journalist and professional communicator who worked with words during her career, rediscovered her love of color and art and all things visual.

With the encouragement of ArtSpace staff, she blossomed as a painter. She paints what the ArtSpace director suggested she do: Paint what makes you happy. Her paintings therefore burst with vibrant color.

Having rediscovered her artistic side, Kathy enrolled at Centenary University with the benefit of grants and scholarships, she graduated in May 2017 with a degree in Individualized Studies, studying visual art, history, and political science. It was nearly four decades after her first college degree in English.

A former mayor and township committee member in Hopewell Township, Kathy says of her HomeFront growth, “ re-found my soul.”
