I’m Elisabeth Gerard Smith, known as Betty Smith, born in Belgium.
Most of my family is very artistic and I have always loved working with my hands. Learning how to sew, knit and eventually became a pretty successful weaver while raising my children.
About 10 years ago, my younger brother Luc, who was a fabulous artist, died from cancer. After months of grieving for him, I decided to try painting. I wanted to feel his happiness when he was in front of a canvas. I started taking classes at the Art Council and became passionate about learning with all different mediums and feeling that happiness.
I’m still searching for my style and taking classes. My strength is in my sense of color and my love of texture and the feel that Luc is watching over me.
